Obituary for Roy Charles "Skeeter" Presnell
Roy Charles Presnell, known by his family and friends as “Skeeter”, 73, of Liberty Hill, SC passed away, Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Kershaw Health, Camden, S.C. Skeeter was born in Terre Hauta, IN, on January 2, 1947. He lived in Mishawaka, IN, with his family and attended Penn High School. At seventeen years old, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and served four years during the Vietnam War era. Upon completing Basic Training at Parr’s Island, NC, and various training schools, he was deployed to Da Nang, Vietnam with the 3rd Marine Division from March 1966 to October 1967. Skeeter’s brother, Steve Presnell, was also enlisted in the USMC, and they served together in the same era and theatre in Vietnam. Skeeter earned an Honorable discharged as a Lance Corporal and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with two stars, and the Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device. Roy was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 360.

Upon completing his enlistment, Skeeter returned home to Indiana, met and married Mrs. Carolyn Anderson (Fred) Haenchen of Kingston, OK. They were married for five years and had two children, William J. (Brooke) Presnell of Canton, GA, and Michael L. (Susan) Presnell of St. Louis, MO. Skeeter was married to Mrs. Diane Reynolds (Larry) Lovett of Winnsboro, SC, for 35 years and they had a son Robert C. (Christi) Presnell. He was also a cherished and loved grandfather and a great grandfather by numerous grandchildren.

After his tour in the USMC, while living in GA, Skeeter mastered a plumbing trade under the guidance of his brother-in-law, which eventually lead him to owning his own business; “Osceola Sewer Cleaning". He sold the business and went to work as a crane operator for many years, then became a truck driver. Skeeter retired in 2013 and enjoyed traveling to visit his family and spending time with his many close friends at Lake Wateree in SC, where he lived for the past 25 years. He loved boating and anything that had to do with the lake. He always enjoyed working with his hands on projects around his home, buying and trading vehicles, having dogs, helping his friends; and spending time with his grandkids. If you ever visited Skeeter at home, you would find, he always had old westerns playing on the television.

Skeeter was preceded in death by his parents Henry in 1989 and Pauline (Gilbert) Presnell in 2011, and his sisters Carol Young, Debra (James) Weaver, and Dorothy Craig. He is survived by his brothers Steve (Cheri) Presnell of Edwardsburg, MI, and George Presnell of Scottsdale, AZ. He was a beloved uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend to many. Skeeter made friends with anyone he met, and always had a kind and generous nature about him. He will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.

A service will be held on January 9th, 2021, at 1PM, at Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church, 20 Meeting LN, Liberty Hill, SC 29074.

A social gathering will be held immediately following the service at Beavers Creek Bar & Grill, 3482 John G. Richards Rd., Camden, SC 29020.

Safety precautions will be taken at both locations. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated and can be made to Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church, or to a charity of your choice.

Baker Funeral Home is serving the Presnell family.
