Tony E. Plyler

Tony Elwyn Plyler, age 74, of Liberty Hill, S.C., passed away, Monday, February 19, 2024, at MUSC Health, Kershaw Health Medical Center, Camden, S.C. with his wife by his side. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School, the University of South Carolina and Winthrop College. He was a former math teacher at Buford High School, South Middle School, and Andrew Jackson High School, serving 28 years. Mr. Plyler was preceded in death by his parents, Drennon and Nell Hunter Plyler; his sister, Jo Ann Plexico; his brother, Richard Plyler and his brothers-in-law, John Plexico and Charles Brewer.


He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mildred McElwee “Millie” Plyler; his sister-in-law, Kathy Rae Brewer of Clover, S.C.; his brothers-in-law, David McElwee and his wife, Yvonne of Clover, S.C. and Frank “Mac” McElwee and his wife, Kathy Ann of Matthews, N.C.; dear friends, Larry and Chenoa Cornelius of Heath Springs, S.C. and David and Lee Gaskey of Chester, S.C.; nieces and nephews, Bridget and Brad Plexico of Lancaster, S.C., Amy and Mark Wartham of Charlotte, N.C; Michaela and Scott Plyler of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Lindsay and Brian Bratton of Lowerys, S.C., Kelley Brewer of Charlotte, N.C., Katie and Adrian Amabile of Clover, S.C., Alex McElwee of Clover, S.C., Morgan McElwee of Charlotte, N.C., Robert McElwee of Matthews, N.C. and Ross McElwee of Charlotte, N.C.; great nieces and nephews, Daniel and Nicholas Wartham, Hunter and Landon Hammond, Dillon and Jason Plexico, Marshall Plyler, Peyton McFalls, Charlie Raen Amabile, Jude Amabile and Arie Amabile and his 2 canine companions, Marley and Pi.


Memorial donations in his memory may be sent to Kershaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 611, Kershaw, S.C. 29067, where he was a member.


A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Woodside Cemetery, Clover, S.C. Rev. Kevin Hartley will officiate.
