Thomas Martin "Marty" Runion

Thomas Martin “Marty” Runion, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family, on January 5th at the age of 72.

He was the son of the late Rev. Clyde and Peggy Runion. Born in South Dakota, Marty grew up in Camden and Lancaster, South Carolina, and later spent the majority of his adult life in Georgetown, where he built his career, raised his family, and formed lifelong friendships. He and his wife recently moved to Daniel Island to be closer to their grandchildren, a season of life he cherished deeply.

A proud graduate of MUSC, Marty dedicated 40 years to the pharmacy profession—working in both retail and hospital settings. He also owned Waccamaw Prescription Center, where he served generations of families with compassion, steadiness, and genuine care.

Marty’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Nina Runion; his children Tyler and Larsyn Cross, Thomas (T) and Sarah Runion, Perri Runion and Kevin Perron; and Evan Runion; and his grandchildren Ryverlynn & Copper Cross and Jane Runion.

He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Patty Runion of Simpsonville, South Carolina; and by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Kendra Williams of Camden, South Carolina; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He enjoyed traveling with his family. From annual ski trips to WV, surf trips all over the East Coast, boat trips up and down the Grand Strand & Low Country, and many other adventures throughout the country, making memories with his family was one of his biggest passions. He was also a devoted sports fan. Marty especially loved golf, football, basketball & baseball. He was also a master story teller and his deep southern accent captivated every individual he spoke to. A man of service, his easy going personality, quiet humor, quick wit, and compassion made him someone people naturally trusted and loved.

A Celebration of Life will be on January 11th at 4pm at Seacoast Church in Mount Pleasant, SC. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the remarkable man he was. A private family burial will take place in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Georgetown, SC, directed by Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, SC.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the East Cooper Hospital staff and to the Hospice Group, whose extraordinary compassion, gentle care, and kindness brought comfort and peace to Marty and his family during his final days. Their support will always be remembered with appreciation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pastors Collective at Seacoast Church.
