Sue Clements McDow

Sue Clements McDow, 96, of Kershaw, SC passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Karesh of Beechwood Longterm Care in Camden, SC.

Born March 7, 1930, in Chickamauga, GA, Sue was the daughter of George Martin Clements and Mary Lou Hall Clements. She earned her nursing degree from Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Dr. William Lee “Mac” McDow. They married in March 1953 and settled in Kershaw, where they raised their six children.

Sue was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother as well as a faithful member of her church and community. She was President of the Women of the Church and Circle Chairman for the Etta Hayes Circle. She also served on the Building and Grounds Committee for many years. For her service, she received an honorary life membership from the Presbyterian Women. Above all, she was a faithful prayer warrior. Her faith was central to her life, and she will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, quick wit and devotion to her church, family, and community (especially as the wife of “Dr. Mac”).

She helped at the Kershaw Area Resource Exchange in the early days, helped with Spring-a-thon, and was a member of the original Board of Directors of the Mount Calvary Outreach Center Mission Ministry in Kershaw where she served for many years.

Sue is survived by five children: Lee McDow (Melissa), Kim Faulkenberry (Brad), Bill McDow (Blair), Ben McDow (Kimberly), and Carl McDow (Dana); 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; three siblings; her daughter, Pam McKeown (and her husband, Jim); and her grandson, Adam Faulkenberry.

Known lovingly as “Nana”, Sue was beloved by so many and will be remembered for her inspirational faith and always positive outlook.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Kershaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Cleveland Street, Kershaw, SC. A family graveside service will be held prior to the service at Kershaw City Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Dr. William L. McDow Scholarship fund at Central Carolina Community Foundation, 2142 Boyce St., Suite 402, Columbia, SC 29201 for the benefit of Andrew Jackson High School graduates for college or tech school attendance.
