Russell Carrol Snyder

Russell Carrol Snyder, age 86, of Gaffney, South Carolina, and formerly of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away Saturday morning at Palmetto Patriots in Gaffney, where he had been a resident since April of 2022.

Born on December 18, 1939, in Persinger, West Virginia, Russell was the son of the late Sanford Monroe Snyder and Ida Curry Snyder. He attended Auto Diesel School and devoted his working life to the field of mechanics, a career that reflected his strong work ethic, mechanical skill, and practical nature.

Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, an experience that remained an important part of his life and identity. He was deeply patriotic and honored to be a veteran.

A man of many interests, Russell had a lifelong love for country, western, and bluegrass music. He was an accomplished musician who found great joy in playing the guitar, mandolin, and banjo, often sharing his talent with others and finding comfort in music throughout his life.

He is survived by his siblings: Debbie Copeland (Bennie) of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Maurice D. Snyder (Delana) of Rogers, Arkansas; Wilma Irene Austin of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and Bobbi Jerome (Maynard) of Channahon, Illinois; along with a number of cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Starkey Snyder, who is laid to rest in Hagerstown, Maryland, and by his sister, Jacalyn Helen “Jackie” Watts.

A committal service for his earthly remains will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina, with military honors.

Memorial donations may be made in Russell’s memory to a veterans’ charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the care of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, South Carolina.
