Rev. James Douglas "Doug" Humphries

Rev. James Douglas “Doug” Humphries, age 81, of Kershaw, S.C. was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Friday morning, September 26, 2025. He was born in Kershaw, S.C. on February 17, 1944, to the late William Leroy Humphries, Sr. and Virgie Thompson Humphries. Rev. Humphries served the Lord as a Baptist minister for numerous years. He pastored the following churches in our area, Refuge Baptist Church, Union Hill Baptist Church, Union Baptist Church and for the last 19 years he has served White Bluff Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and currently he enjoyed shooting and woodworking.

He is survived by 2 sisters, Shirley Dease and her husband, Luke and Janice Langley and her husband, Tommy, all of Kershaw, S.C. and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbarba “Tip” Carnes and her husband, TC and 2 brothers in law, Tom Hunter and his wife, Gail and Rev. Carl Hunter and his wife, Rilda. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Sue Hunter Humphries; 3 sisters, Ottie Lee Catoe, Edna Humphries and Shelby Jean Pethel; 3 brothers, William Leroy “W.L” Humphries, Jr., Edward Humphries and Jack Wayne Humphries, 3 sisters in law, Almetta H. Estridge, Annette Hunter and Pauline H. Tayor and 4 brothers in law, Bobby Hunter, Earl Hunter, Ira B. Hunter and Jack Hunter.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 11:00 o’clock a.m. in the morning from BAKER CONFERENCE CENTER, 105 North Minor Street, Kershaw, S.C. His nephew, Rev. Larry Humphries will conduct the service.

The burial will follow the service in the Abney Baptist Church Cemetery, Kershaw, S.C.

The family will greet friends following the burial in the Abney Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
