Matthew Herbert Watson

Matthew Herbert Watson, age 76 of Kershaw, SC passed away, Friday, October 17, 2025, at his home.

Born in Kershaw, SC, he was the son of the late Earl K. Watson, and Margie W. Watson. Mackey was a systems technician for Dupont in Lugoff, SC for 47 years. He loved farming. Mackey especially enjoyed traveling to the Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning in Camden, SC. Mackey was a faithful member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Kershaw, SC where he served as a deacon for 46 years and as the Sunday School Director. Mackey loved his church and his church family. Mackey had a servant’s heart, always thinking of and giving to other people. Mackey enjoyed spending time with his family while taking pictures of all the trips they took together. Mackey served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam and received a Purple Heart.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 52 years, Sylvia Jean Watson; 2 sons, Gregory N. Watson and his wife, Ashley and Ryan A. Watson, and his wife, Rebekah, and grandson, Whit Watson. He also leaves behind his brother, Rickey Watson and his wife, Ann, a sister, Bobbie Lynn and her husband, Joe, and brother, Hugh Watson, and his wife, Wanda. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Watson.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, October 21, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.

A funeral service to remember and honor his life will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.
