Mark Hunter Dennis, 74, of Kershaw, South Carolina passed away from brain cancer and went to his heavenly home on April 14th at 10:34 a.m. Agape Hospice in Lancaster was in attendance.
Mark was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 2nd, 1951, at Charlotte Memorial Hospital to Carl Amos Dennis and Mildred Hunter Dennis of Ambassador Street.
Even as a baby, Mark had a zest for life and insatiably innate curiosity about the world around him. He became a quick study with a prodigious memory throughout his many childhood adventures. His love for learning encompassed all subjects including futurism and origins of faith. During the 60’s and 70’s, he embraced the counterculture and ways of making changes to the world that would bring peace and hope. To that end, he was accepted his senior year at Camden Military Academy, lettering in golf and graduating with honors in 1970. He then went off to UNCC, setting down, working and furthering his education explorations. Mark’s Christian faith found Jewish roots from a family member which compelled him to investigate and study the Middle East.
The true north and home, was, for Mark, being near water-preferably the ocean and even more, on a boat. He was an avid sailor and loved fishing: taking his young family out on the lake and teaching them to read the wind and take the tiller. At the ocean, he taught them how to catch and cook fish, taking joy in their delight in “bringing home breakfast!’
Moving to Kershaw brought him many new blessings - great friends and conversations, new food venues to explore, open starlit skies, deer hunting, interesting experiences with interesting people and a new daughter-in-law. He loved his favorite haunts-the Prayer Bus/guys, Triple R, the Flea Market, the Cigar Shop and so many more.
Mark was preceded in death by his younger brother, Matthew Carl Dennis, his father, Carl Amos Dennis and mother, Mildred “Millie” Hunter Dennis and his daughter, Shaya Grace Dennis. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth V. Womble Dennis, daughter, Ariana Elizabeth Dennis, sons, Matthew Christian Dennis and Jonathan Israel Dennis and daughter-in-law, Sidney (Faile) Dennis. The family has selected Baker Funeral Home for private cremation services. Mark will be placed with his family in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Our deepest gratitude and thankfulness to Agape Hospice Care for their exceptional attendance and service during this time. Any honorary contributions in Mark’s memory may be sent to: Hope of Israel Congregation, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Arrangements are under the care of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, South Carolina.
