Margie Phillips Whitley

Margie Phillips Whitley of Kershaw, S.C., who loved the Lord, her savior, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the age of ninety-six. Born in Kershaw, S.C., on July 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie B. and Alice Idelle Phillips and predeceased by her husband, J.C. Whitley. She was a life-long resident of Kershaw and after attending Kershaw High School, began working for Springs Mills, from which she retired. She immediately determined that she needed to remain “Busy” and joined Young’s Laundry for several years from which she retired to take care of her husband of 69 years, until he passed away in 2015.

She was fiercely independent and loved her local community of friends and was a faithful member of Center Grove Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and dedicated to her family. She loved gardening and had a thriving backyard flower garden, which she was proud of. She was known for her unselfish acts of kindness and a forgiving spirit.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Jerry (Jan) Whitley, Kenny Whitley, Keith (Pam) Whitley, and Jason (Teresa) Whitley; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer Baxley (Patrick), Jeremy Whitley, Brandy Ghent (Brad), Kerri Mackey (Brian), John Whitley (Melissa), Willis Whitley (Jessica), Kolby Whitley and Kade Whitley, her brother, Olin Phillips; eleven great-grandchildren, and twin great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Celeste, a step great grandson and ten siblings.

The family thanks the staff of Helms-Gordon Residential Care, as well as Medical Services of America for their kindness and care shown to their mom.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Center Grove Baptist Church with a private burial afterwards in the family plot in Kershaw City Cemetery. Rev. Mitchell Austin will officiate.

The family will welcome and greet friends in the church sanctuary, before the service begins starting at 10:00 a.m. and briefly at the end of the service on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
