Margie Ruth Dean Tarlton, age 88, of Jefferson, S.C. passed away, Sunday, November 2, 2025. Born in Chesterfield Co., S.C. she was a daughter of the late Thomas Edward “Ed” Dean and Pearlie Mae Britt Dean. She lived most of her life in Bethune, S.C. Margie was married to the late Lester Talton, Jr. They had 9 children together, 25 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 18 great- great grandchildren.
Margie was a member of Almetta Baptist Church in Jefferson, S.C. She worked at Cal-Maine Foods in Bethune, S.C., Caro Knit in Jefferson, S.C. and Palmetto Sportswear in Bethune, S.C. She also worked raking pine straw with her friends Julia and Jimmy Watkins; it was a job she talked about that she enjoyed the most. Most of all she was the best mother and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved the color red. She especially loved red roses.
Margie loved collecting seashells, wind chimes, and concrete yard statues, and so many other what knots and knick-knacks. When Margie was able, she also enjoyed word search puzzles, cross stitching, and painting her concrete statues. Margie also loved her beloved dog (her last baby) Dixie.
In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by, 4 children, David Talton, Jr., Lester Dennis Tarlton, Tommie Tarlton, Thomas Edward “Ed” Tarlton; grandson, Timothy Eugene Barrett; and her son-in-law, Aaron Alvin McCathern.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory; 5 children, Dianne McCathern, Freddie (Barbara) Tarlton, Faye (Troy) Watkins, Judy (Jr.) Taylor and Hope (Kenny) Barrett; 3 daughters in law, Annette Tarlton, Susan Tarlton and Dollie Tarlton; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren whom she loved very much, and they loved her in return.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Almetta Baptist Church, 313 E. Miller Street, Jefferson, S.C. 29718. Pastor Devan Maden and Preacher Curtis Watkins will officiate. The Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The viewing will be held at the church prior to the service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
