Lynnwood Hazel Horton, age 77, of Bethune, S.C., went to be with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Thursday morning, November 20, 2025. Born in Hartsville, S.C., he was the eldest son of the late Hazel and Laverne Horton of Bethune, S.C. Lynnwood was a Vietnam War veteran, serving from 1968–1970. He retired from Dana Corporation in 2008 and was a row crop and produce farmer who especially liked growing watermelons and collards. He was a Board Director at Bethune Rural Water Company, and he was a longstanding and dedicated member of Timrod Baptist Church. He loved his family, friends and church family and treated everyone as he wished to be treated. He was a kind and caring man.
He is survived by his son, Russell (Sheila) Horton, and his stepdaughter, Karen Benfield. His grandchildren are Ashley Horton, Kennedey Benfield, Kathryn DeVido, Cody Benfield, and a special family member, Nicolle Hope. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Kay Horton, to whom he was married for forty-four years. His surviving siblings are Sanna (David) Carrico and Carl (Rhonda) Horton. His nieces and nephews are Lauren (Matt) Vargo, Dara (Wes) Harrell, Carly Horton, Case (Sydney) Horton, and Chloe Horton; as well as three great-nieces and one great-nephew. He is also survived by two aunts, Martha Bradley and Bem Holley.
The family asks that donations in his memory be made to North Central High School Future Farmers of America or Timrod Baptist Church.
