Funeral services for Louise Ballard Coates, 90, of Kershaw will be held Sunday, October 7, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Kershaw. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery. Rev. Bryant D. Fersner will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Senior Adult Wing of First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall beginning at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 67, Kershaw, S.C. 29067 Mrs. Coates, widow of Dewey Rogers Coates, died Tuesday, October 2, at KershawHealth, Camden. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Leroy J. and Ella Knight Ballard. Mrs. Coates retired from Springs Industries after 43 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Eastern Star where she served as former secretary. Mrs. Coates was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking. Surviving are two sons, William Douglas “Doug” Coates (Linda) of Cayce, and James Eric “Jimmy” Coates (Shirley) of Lexington; 3 grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Coates Hite (David) of West Columbia, Pamela Lynn Mabry (Juston) of Cayce, and Jennifer Ashley Drayer (Robert) of Lexington; 3 great grandchildren, Brent Douglas Russell, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Hite, and Olivia Grace Hite and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Douglas Brent Coates and brother, James Elmer Ballard.
