Lewis Edwin Estridge

Lewis Edwin “Mr. Ed” Estridge, 85, passed away at his home March 6, 2026, surrounded by his family. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Jane. Born in Kershaw, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Ernest Christopher and Viola Morgan Estridge.

He is survived by his daughter, Angel Estridge (George Bare) of Kershaw; and his granddaughter, Ember Estridge (Travis Hawkins) of Hartsville, South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Lee Faile of Kershaw; his brother, Frank Estridge of Kershaw; and his special friend, Linda Catoe of Jefferson, South Carolina.

After retiring from E.I. DuPont May Plant in Lugoff following 30 years of service, Mr. Ed devoted even more time to the activities and hobbies he loved. He played many musical instruments, including the mountain dulcimer, and often shared his music by playing in area nursing homes.

He spent many happy days tinkering around in his shop, crafting rings from coins, turning antique bottles into drinking glasses and lamps, and working on all sorts of creative projects. He also repurposed weathered lumber from old houses and barns, creating his own unique buildings and sheds. It seemed there was nothing he couldn’t do. He loved animals and, over the years, owned horses, goats, and chickens. Horses held a particularly special place in his life for many years.

Joy and laughter always seemed to follow Mr. Ed wherever he went. He loved talking with and getting to know everyone he met. He lived life to the fullest and was always willing to help someone in need, truly reflecting the heart of a Godly servant. He was a devoted and loving husband who faithfully cared for his wife at home during her illness until her passing.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Lena Edna Estridge; his brothers, William (Harriett) Estridge, Paul (Carolyn) Estridge, and Robert (Jeannie) Estridge; his sister, Pauline (Wayne) Williams, and brother-in-law S.W. Faile.

He had many special friends, including (but certainly not limited to) Steve Welch, Pearl Thompson, Debbie Helms, and many others. Mr. Ed cherished his time with his breakfast buddies at 521 Filling Station in Kershaw. He also felt especially close to his brothers- and sisters-in-law of the Plyler family.

The family would like to thank all the ladies with MUSC Health Hospice Lugoff for the loving and compassionate care they provided.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 17 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at Midway Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, in Kershaw, SC. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at 3:00 pm, in the sanctuary.
