Jerome Hendrix Ellis, age 70 of Kershaw, S.C., passed away Tuesday evening, January 16, 2024, at MUSC-Lancaster following complications of pneumonia. Jerome, “Bubba”, as he was affectionately known to close friends and family, was a son of the late Norman and Glenda Ellis. Jerome is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Robbie Rabon Ellis, and his son, William (Will) Ellis. He is also survived by his sister, Norma Jean Mobley and her husband, Alton; his brother, Jim Ellis; his sister-in-law, Staci Bryant and her husband, Chuck; his nieces, Alison Anderson, Susan Ellis, and Macie Ellis; nephews, Paul Mobley, James Clay Ellis, Jr., and Jake Bryant. Jerome made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as a young boy at Second Baptist Church where he was baptized. More recently, Jerome was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church, Kershaw.
As a graduate of York Technical College and a former Mr. York Tech, Jerome became a talented automotive/diesel mechanic. His reputable skills led to employment throughout the automotive, heavy equipment and construction industries.
His work ethic brought about the creation of Ellis Trucking from which he eventually retired.
Following his paternal grandfather and his father, Jerome became a Mason serving as Past Master of Abney Lodge #211 AFM in Kershaw. Jerome was also a Shriner serving as a Past President and current Treasurer of Kershaw Shrine Club. Jerome was passionate regarding the work of Shriners and could get even the most miserly to donate during Shriner fund raisers.
Jerome was a great spinner of tales, entertaining anyone who would listen to his anecdotes. Everyone who knew Jerome had a “Jerome story.” He was well known in his stomping ground. No last name was necessary; everyone knew Jerome.
Jerome was loved by his family and friends, and he will be missed by all of them.
