Huel Corbin "Buddy" Bailey, Jr.

Huel Corbin “Buddy” Bailey, Jr., 65, of Camden, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina.

Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Huel Corbin “Buck” Bailey, Sr. and Pauline Phillips Bailey. Buddy was of the Baptist faith.

Buddy worked for many years as a surveyor, a profession that reflected his appreciation for precision and the outdoors. He was also an avid history enthusiast who enjoyed learning about the past and sharing his knowledge with others.

In his spare time, Buddy loved reading everything he could find online, especially the news, politics, and South Carolina Gamecock sports. He believed in staying informed and was always ready to enjoy a thoughtful conversation about current events, history, or the world around him. His curiosity and willingness to engage with others will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.

Buddy is survived by his daughter, Kirsten Denise Messer and her husband, Phillip, of Kershaw, South Carolina; his son, Corbin Reese Bailey of Kershaw, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Michael Caden Bowers and Avery Claire Bowers; and his sisters, Pansy B. Sims and her husband, Tommy, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, JoAnna B. Shepard and her husband, Eddie, of Kershaw, South Carolina, and Paula B. Adams and her husband, Barry, of Pendleton, South Carolina.

A memorial service celebrating Buddy's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home, 210 E. Hilton Street, Kershaw, South Carolina. Mr. Joey Phillips will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
