George W. "Sambo" Deese, Jr.

George W. “Sambo” Deese, Jr., 84, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away Monday evening, April 13, 2026, at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Downtown in Columbia. Born in Lancaster, S.C., he was the son of the late George W. Deese, Sr. and Ruby Bowers Deese.

Mr. Deese retired as an Industrial Engineer with Springs Industries. He was an avid fisherman who especially cherished the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Horton Deese; three daughters, Sheila D. Horton (Russell) of Bethune, S.C., Angie D. Austin (Dale) of Kershaw, S.C., and Crystal D. Deese of Kershaw, S.C.; six grandchildren, Megan Jackson, Chase Jackson (Emily), Ashley Horton, Brooke Faulkenberry (Michael), Todd Austin and Quinton Deese (Val); seven great-grandchildren, Kameron, Cheyenne, Kinsley, Aubrey, Aiden, Karson, and Easton; one step-great-grandson, Michael J.; his sister, Helen Faulkenberry (Jerry) of Easley, S.C.; and a niece, Heather Everhart (Jason). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three nephews, Jason Faulkenberry, Derek Faulkenberry, and Jay Horton.

The family will receive friends at the home on Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In accordance with Mr. Deese’s wishes, no formal services will be held.

Memorials may be made to Kershaw Second Baptist Church, 7737 Kershaw-Camden Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067, or to a charity of one’s choice.
