Gussie Franklin “Frankie” Blackmon of Bethune, SC died on June 12th at the age of 77. Born in Lancaster, South Carolina on August 2nd, 1948, he was the son of late Gussie and Rudell Sims Blackmon.
Frankie is survived by his wife Mae Freeman Blackmon; his daughters Angie Rutledge (Phil), Michelle Reeves (Jason), Amy Williams (Barry) and sons Timothy Hornsby (Tara) and Bryan Blackmon. He is also survived by two brothers, Kirby Blackmon of Kershaw and Kurtis Blackmon of Columbia and two sisters, Mary Mungo of Lancaster and Gail Sabido of Kershaw. Also cherishing his memory is his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who loved him with all their heart. He was preceded in death by his son Lee Blackmon and his brothers Joe Blackmon and Ricky Blackmon.
Frankie was a workaholic, he worked for many years at DuPont and owned his own business clearing land, putting in pools and installing septic tanks. Although he could do almost anything, he was the happiest on his tractor. He loved all things farming, whether that was tending to the cows, working in the garden or bailing of field of hay for his grand kids to jump and play on. He was always the biggest jokester and his favorite person to play around with was his wife, Mae. If you ever came to visit and knocked on his door, you were probably greeted with a “Hello Darlin” in light of his favorite singer, Conway Twitty. Frankie lived his life to the fullest and was always ready to have a good time. He was loved so much and will be greatly missed.
A service to remember, honor and reflect on his life, will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11 am from the chapel of Baker Funeral Home, 210 E. Hilton Street, Kershaw. Rev. Todd Gandy will officiate the service.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Flint Ridge Baptist Church, 1850 Flint Ridge Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058 or the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the care of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw.
