Earl "Ray" Faulkenberry

Mr. Earl Raycine “Ray” Faulkenberry, age 94, of Lancaster, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster.

Ray was born on July 31, 1931, in Kershaw, South Carolina. He was the seventh of nine children and the last surviving child of the late Samuel and Minnie Williams Faulkenberry.

He is lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends, as well as his “adopted great-grandchildren,” who affectionately knew him as Papa Ray.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his eight brothers and sisters: Jeanette Dease, Annie Ruth Robinson, Carl Faulkenberry, Cletis Faulkenberry, Grover Faulkenberry, J.W. Faulkenberry, Randolph Faulkenberry, and William Faulkenberry. He was also preceded in death by his life partner of more than 20 years, Mrs. Joan Sneed, and his former wife of 15 years, Mrs. Lila Haigler Williams Faulkenberry.

Ray lived a full and meaningful life and deeply valued true friendship. He loved the company of family and friends and could tell a story with the best of them. A faithful member of Douglas Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, his faith was strong, and as he often testified, he was ready to go home. He was also a member of the Masons for more than 60 years.

Ray appreciated the kindness of others and never failed to say thank you, never taking a single gesture for granted. No stranger to hard work, he loved being outdoors and working with his hands. He spent his life buying and selling, always enjoying the thrill of finding a bargain and making a good deal. Ray worked for more than 48 years at Springs Industries, and following his retirement, began a second career with Lancaster County. He loved his community and continually sought ways to make it a better place. Being still was never in his nature.
