Donald Joseph “Big Joey” Wheeler, Jr., 59, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Born in Monroe, he was the son of the late Donald Joseph Wheeler, Sr. and Patricia Medlin Morrison. Joey worked as a painting contractor and was known for his love of cars, fishing, taking walks, and, most importantly, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Donald Joseph “Little Joey” Wheeler, III, and Michelle Wheeler; his grandchildren, Zoey Wheeler, Haylee Wheeler, Victoria Roddey, Courtney Roddey, Alyssa Truesdale, Yasheen Mikell Truesdale, and Aubrey Truesdale; his great-grandchildren, Makenzie Stewart and Noah Moore; his siblings, Tony Nikeya Wheeler and Donie Gowans Wheeler; and his former wife, Mary Helms Wheeler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Makialah Elizabeth Wheeler, and his brothers, Johnny Dale Wheeler, Ricky Wheeler, and Eric Wheeler.
A graveside service was held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery, Kershaw, SC. The Rev. Jeremy Ussery officiated. The burial followed in the cemetery.
Arrangements were under the care of Baker Funeral Home.
