Chet Jones

Chet Jones, age 66, passed away Monday evening, December 22, 2025, at his home. He was born in Lancaster, South Carolina, and was the son of Delores Taylor Jones and the late Ralph Burrell Jones, Sr.

Chet worked in heavy equipment operations and was an avid billiards player. He was known for his strong work ethic and his love for the game.

In addition to his mother of Kershaw, South Carolina, he is survived by his wife, Donica Jones; two daughters, Denise Wolfe (Chip) of Little River, South Carolina, and Madison Starling (Jakob) of Wingate, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Haley Kennington (Cam Vincent), Payton Starnes (Dalton), and Brianna Kennington, all of Kershaw, South Carolina, and Jameson Starling of Wingate, North Carolina; and two great-grandchildren, Kaisyn Starnes and Stetson Starnes, both of Kershaw, South Carolina.

He is also survived by his sister, Charlene Thornburg (Gary) of Rock Hill, South Carolina; his brother, Stephen Jones (Darlene) of Kershaw, South Carolina; his brother-in-law, Tom Lenz of Summerville, South Carolina; his mother-in-law, Dianne Laney Philemon (Rodgell) of Monroe, North Carolina; and his brother-in-law, Donald “Chuck” Laney (Barbara) of Monroe, North Carolina, along with their sons, Greg and Andrew, and their families. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Chet is also survived by a special friend, Steven “Rufus” Bennett, whom he loved and considered a special son.

He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Shelia Jones Lenz; and his brother, Ralph B. Jones, Jr.

A graveside service to honor and remember Chet’s life will be held Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sand Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 6895 Highway 341, Kershaw, South Carolina. Rev. Michael Owens and Mr. Stephen Jones will officiate. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends following the graveside service on the church cemetery grounds.
