Betty Sue West

Betty Sue Baker West, age 94, of Bethune, S.C. passed away Thursday morning, June 12, 2025, at her son’s home in Bethune, S.C. Born in Kershaw, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Whiteford Baker and Lille Roberts Baker. She was an employee of Springs Industries for many years. Mrs. West enjoyed spending time with her family, doing crossword puzzles and cooking. She was an avid watcher of Days of Our Lives and Game Show Network. She was a member of Timrod Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory 2 sons, George Timothy “Timmy” West of West Columbia, S.C. and Dennis (Dawn) West of Bethune, S.C.; grandchildren, Brandy (Chriss) Kelley and Kelly West both of Bethune, S.C.; great grandchildren, Kayleigh West, Kimber Melton, Natalie Kelley, Grayson Kelley and Dixie Kelley all of Bethune, S.C. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Connell of Kershaw, S.C., her sister-in-law, Sue Baker of Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George “Buck” West, siblings, Albert Baker, Dotsy Baker, Magdalene Baker, Beatrice Baker, Odessa Faile, Marie Hancock, Edna Parker, Eleanor Watkins and Doris West.

The family would like to thank MUSC Health Hospice of Kershaw County and her caregiver, Jamie Campbell, for their service.

The visitation will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Baker Funeral Home, 210 E. Hilton Street, Kershaw, S.C.

A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. in Baker Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Suzanne C. Bachelor will officiate.

A private burial will be in the Timrod Baptist Church Cemetery.
