Bernard Eugene “Barney” Ransom, 88, of Camden, S.C., passed away, Thursday morning, April 21, 2022, at Colonial at Old Camden, Camden, S.C. He was born, September 11, 1933, in Columbia, S.C., to the late Camille Ransom, Sr. and Mattie Burnett Ransom. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Ransom entered the Navy and served his country honorably. He retired from the DuPont Company serving as a Resource Manager. He was described by his team as a true Leader. He was the type of Manager who gave credit for his accomplishments to his staff, and they honored him. Upon retirement he began his career in real estate. He was quite successful selling real estate. He attained Life Membership in the Million Dollar Club and Life Membership of Circle of Excellence. Barney was a faithful member of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, serving in various leadership roles within the church. He also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels, the United Way and other various charities he gave his time volunteering.
He enjoyed a good dance, especially the Shag and was a cyclist in his earlier years. His passion was collecting Lionel Toy Trains. His knowledge about toy trains was quite informative. He also was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Parker Ransom; his son, Britton Parker Ransom; his daughter, Suzanne “Suzy” Ransom Howard; 4 grandchildren, Alexandra “Alex” Britton Howard, John “Parker” Howard, Tarah (Matthew) Hancock and Noah Elias Ransom. He is also survived by his great granddaughter, Everleigh Rose Hancock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Camille Ransom, Jr.
A memorial service to remember and reflect on Mr. Ransom’s life will be held at 11:00 o’clock a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, Camden, S.C. Reverend Roy Butler will officiate. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church.
Interment will be private in St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church Memorial Garden Columbarium.
