Alan Lofton Mathis, age 66, of Lancaster, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center.
Born on May 19, 1959, Alan was the son of the late Charles Lofton Mathis and Shirley Pauline Hyatt Mathis. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and spent many years as a dedicated millwright at Bowater, where he was known for his strong work ethic and mechanical skill.
Alan had a love for collecting treasured items and especially enjoyed riding his scooter. In his spare time, he found peace in fishing and took great joy in the companionship of his beloved dogs, Milo and Queen. Above all else, Alan cherished time spent with his family, holding a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.
He is survived by his son, Dallas Lofton Mathis of Lancaster, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Avalyn Kaye Mathis and her brother, Kaysen Ellis, and Reese Mathis and his sister, Emma Ghent; and his brothers, Todd Darren Mathis (Miranda) and Steven Scott Mathis, all of Lancaster, South Carolina.
In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Renee Montgomery Mathis, and his son, Mitchell Justin Mathis.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home, 210 East Hilton Street, Kershaw, South Carolina 29067. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lancaster SPCA of South Carolina, P.O. Box 3042, Lancaster, South Carolina 29721, in memory of Alan and in honor of his love for animals.
Arrangements are under the care of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, South Carolina.
