Obituary for William R. Sims
A celebration of life service for William Randall “Scoop” Sims, 62, retired attorney at law, will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, in the sanctuary of Kershaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Cleveland Street, Kershaw. Rev. Dr. Eugen “Buddy” Bach will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the parlor located in the church Fellowship Hall.

Mr. Sims died Sunday, July 31, after a battle with cancer. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late William G. “Bill” and Ruth Coates Sims. Mr. Sims was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School and received his undergraduate degree and law degree from USC. He began his career as a teacher in the Marion County school system, followed by employment with the Department of Social Services. He later practiced law in Camden, Chester and Lancaster Counties. Mr. Sims had served as Lancaster County attorney and had served 12 years on the Lancaster County School Board. He enjoyed writing sports columns for the Lancaster News and Kershaw News Era. He was also a member of the Kershaw Evangelical Presbyterian church where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder. Prior to his illness, he was serving as a statistician for the Andrew Jackson Girls basketball team and a substitute teacher at the high school. Mr. Sims was also an avid Andrew Jackson Volunteer and Carolina Gamecock fan.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Michelle Richards Sims; a son, Alan Richards Sims and his wife Christina; a daughter, Hayley Sims Payne and her husband Jason; a grandson, Sailor Carson Sims; a granddaughter, Tyndall Leigh Payne, due in September; a sister, Pat Sims Hinson and her husband Ronnie; a brother, Mitchell Sims all of Kershaw and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Baker Funeral Home, 210 E. Hilton Street, Kershaw, S.C. 29067 for funeral expenses.
