Obituary for William L. "Bill" Coates
William Lloyd “Bill” Coates, 87, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 23, 2022, at his home. Born in Kershaw, S.C., he was a son of the late John Edward Coates and Nettie Belle Catoe Coates. He was a manager in the textile industry and a faithful member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church, Heath Springs, S.C.
Mr. Coates was a faithful and hardworking man. He loved his family, his church and the greater Kershaw community. He cherished the life that God gave him every day.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bobbie Jean Roberts Coates; his son, Rev. Keith Coates; 3 brothers, Harold Bruce Coates, Sr., Oscar Eddie Coates, Sr. and Joel Douglas Coates and 2 sisters, Mildred Simpson and Jonnie C. Gardner.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, 2 sons, Dr. William L. “Billy” Coates and his wife Jeanne of Gainesville, GA and Don Coates of Kershaw, S.C.: 2 daughters-in-law, Lee Ann Coates and Claire Weber Bell; 7 grandchildren, Ashley (John) Wash, Elizabeth (Garrett Gaddy) Coates, Lindsey (Tim) Bayne, William M. Coates, Cory Coates, Michaela Coates, Jonathan Coates; 11 great grandchildren and 2 brothers, Elmer “Cotton” Coats and Emerson (Pat) Coates of Kershaw, S.C.
A family graveside service will be held at 9:00 A.M., Sunday morning, July 17, 2022, in the Thorn Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Steve Mackey will officiate.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Coates may be made to Thorn Hill Baptist Church, 2587 Kershaw County Club Road, Heath Springs, S.C. 29058.
