On Tuesday, August 10, 2021, William Charlie Newman, Jr., 89, of Bethune, SC, was welcomed into his eternal home surrounded by his family at Wayne T. Patrick House in Rock Hill, SC. A gentle, kind man who loved and trusted God throughout his life. Bill served others humbly, generously, and graciously, and always believed the best in people.
Bill was born on April 9, 1932, to William Charlie Newman, Sr. and Nannie McCaskill Newman, who predeceased him. He grew up in a large loving family with 6 brothers and 5 sisters. Bill was a Korean War Navy veteran. He retired from Kendall Corporation in 1989. He was a member and deacon at Mount Pisgah Baptist church for many years.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Mr. Bill were his parents, brothers; Gerald Cecil Newman, Boyd Newman, Grady Newman and Roy Newman; sisters, Alma Hilton, Susie Mae McGee and Sara Lee Anderson; son, Gerald Scott Newman and great grandson, Briggs Chambers. Loved ones that will miss Mr. Bill, is his loving wife of 64 years, Cora Lee Sullivan Newman; sons, Marvin Newman (Leda), Charlie Newman (Carol), Jeff Newman (Marian) and Dylan Newman (fiancé, Tessa); brothers, JD Newman and Nelson Newman and sisters, Elaine Hartis and Helen Catoe; 3 granddaughters; 5 grandsons; 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.
The family would like to thank Pruitt Hospice and Hospice and Community Care for their constant and attentive treatment.
The family will receive friends and family following the service on Sunday, August 15th at the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Family Life Center and the funeral service will be held at 4 PM in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would request memorials be made the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Building Fund, 2140 McBee Hwy., Jefferson, SC 29718.
