Obituary for William 'Billy' Phillips
Funeral services for William Ernest “Billy” Phillips, 84 of Kershaw will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2013, in the sanctuary of Pleasant Plain Baptist Church. The Revs. Todd Montgomery and Will Washburn will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military honors. Mr. Phillips died Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at his home. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late William Leroy and Edna Holden Phillips. He retired as a supervisor from Springs Industries after 36 years of service to the shipping and receiving department. He was a member of Pleasant Plain Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran. Mr. Phillips also enjoyed going to auctions. Surviving are his wife, Mary Helen McManus Phillips of the home; 2 sons, Dennis L. Phillips and his wife Pam of Catawba and William Kent Phillips and his wife Barbara of Lancaster; 3 grandchildren, Stephen (Tracye) Thompson, Kipp (Amber ) Phillips, Briana (Keith) Cook, 2 great grandchildren, Makayla and Zachery Thompson; 3 sisters, Frances McManus of Kershaw, Susie Ellis of Washington, DC and Shirley Jean Watts of Lancaster . The family will receive friends, prior to the service on Thursday beginning at 12:30 in the sanctuary of the church and other times at the home, 6185 Flat Creek Rd., Kershaw.
