Obituary for Waldo Phillips

Raymond Waldo Phillips, age 87, passed away, Thursday, June 1, 2023, at his home. Born in Kershaw, S.C., he was a son of the late Luther Phillips and Mae Blocker Phillips. He retired from Springs Industries after 42 years of service. He loved the outdoors, fishing, animals and doing word searches. He was a NASCAR fan and South Carolina Gamecock supporter. He also enjoyed putting together puzzles and had a green thumb for growing almost anything.


He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carolyn McManus Phillips; 2 daughters, Sharon P. Hood (Marshall) of Heath Springs, S.C., Kelli Phillips Turner (William) of Kershaw, S.C., 4 grandchildren, Dustin Fletcher (Julianne), Anna Phillips (Guy Hoagland), Trey Thomas (Gary) and Hannah Bragdon (B.G.); a step grandson, Rick Hood; 3 great grandchildren, Michael Tarlton, Abigail Bragdon and Myles Bragdon; 2 step great grandchildren, Colton Hood and Kylie Hood; 2 sisters, Mildred P. Payne of Kershaw, S.C. and Loree P. Caldwell (Larry) of Westville, S.C. and a sister-in-law, Margaret Phillips of Lancaster, S.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Raymond Phillips; a great grandson, Blaine Tarlton; son-in-law, Donnie Outen and siblings, Lois Truesdale, Bill Phillips, Esther Faile, Odell Phillips, and Jackie Phillips Truesdale.


Friends may visit Baker Funeral Home, Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to pay their respects and sign the register.


A graveside celebration of life service will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Kershaw City Cemetery. The Revs. Dr. Jason T. Moss and Ronnie Hinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the cemetery.


The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the cemetery.


The family would like to thank Agape Hospice for the love and care shown to Mr. Phillips.


Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Phillips may be made to Kershaw Second Baptist Church, 7737 Kershaw-Camden Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067, or Lancaster County Animal Shelter – Lancaster SPCA, 2074 Pageland Highway, Lancaster, S.C. 29067.
