Wade Carson Deese, 83, of Lancaster, SC, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, while surrounded by his loving church friends and family. Mr. Deese was born on November 13, 1939, in Monroe, NC, to the late Dudley Theron and Carrie Griffin Deese and was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lewis Deese. Mr. Deese worked for Georgia Pacific in Lancaster for over 40 years and was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church where he participated and attended regularly. He was an avid farmer and collector of sorts and had great affection for his two donkeys, Jack, and Junior. Mr. Deese graduated from Pageland High School in 1957 and served in the US National Guard. He loved his family dearly and always participated in the Griffin family reunion where he enjoyed hearing old stories about the family and especially his parents and cousins.
Mr. Deese is survived by his nephews, Conrad Deese (Cara) of Franklin, TN., and Carlton Deese (Courtney) of Augusta, GA.; he is also survived by his great nephews Peyton Deese, Parker Deese and Paxton Deese, of Franklin, TN and great nephew Camden Deese and great niece Caroline Deese of Evans, GA. He is also survived by a close cousin, Mr. Jerry Austin of Charlotte, NC.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m., Sept. 17, from the graveside in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Trent McLaughlin officiating. There will be visitation prior to the service and burial. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Emmie (friend and caretaker), Pastor Trent and neighbors Mike and Sharon Sims for their care, compassion, and friendship over the years.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 3052 Taxahaw Rd., Lancaster, SC.
