Obituary for Valerie B. Gibson
Valerie Banfield Gibson, age 81, of Kershaw, S.C., died Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Providence Health, Columbia, S.C. Born in Uxbridge Middlesex , England, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Banfield and Lucy Milbourne Banfield. Mrs. Gibson retired as a rural mail carrier after 36 years. Mrs. Gibson held dual citizenship in the UK and the US. She was an avid sports fan and baker. Valerie loved to make Christmas fruitcakes, cheese pennies, play Bingo and the lottery. She loved the Gamecocks and had a heart for children. She was a former co-owner of the Kershaw Daycare. Her grandchildren were her world.
A gathering and visitation to remember her life will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 3:00 to 5:00 o’clock p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C. A private burial will be held at a later date in England.
Surviving are 4 children, Richard (Sheila) Maree, Bridget (Scott) Jones, Jody (Scott) Neal and Robert (Kimberly) Gibson, Jr.; 10 grandchildren, Skylar Jones, Garth Maree, Macaylee Jones, Haley Maree, Will Jones, Blythe Neal, Sloane Neal, Grant Maree, Ava Neal and Riley Gibson; a sister, Pearl Banfield and a brother, Malcolm Banfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorials in her memory may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place. Memphis, TN 38105.
