Obituary for Sybil Outen Bowers
Funeral services for Sybil Outen Bowers, 76, of York and formerly of Kershaw, will be held on Saturday, August 10, at 11:00 a.m. in Abney Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, August 9, from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. in Baker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bowers, widow of Gene Franklin Bowers, died Wednesday, August 7, at her home. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Jones Clarence and Gladys Kirkland Outen. Mrs. Bowers was employed by Skyline Limited until it closed and then returned to school and became a Certified Nurse Assistant working with Agape Hospice. She was a member of Abney Baptist Church where she was involved in various groups. Mrs. Bowers enjoyed coloring in her colorbook, bowling, softball, and fishing.
Surviving are her daughters, Penny Bowers of York and Lisa Hunter (Sonny) of Blackstock; brothers ,William Karl Outen of Hopkins, Ronald Wayne Outen of Sumter, Bruce Outen and Boyce Outen both of Kershaw; sisters, Rhea Nell Catoe of Hinesville, Ga., and Donna Eudy of Kershaw; granddaughters, Kimberly Bowers of York and Mary Hunter of Blackstock; great grandsons, Logan Garris and Hunter Seacrest; great granddaughter, Alisa Bowers. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Margie Outen, Anna Owens and Glenda Clyburn. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Nicole Peach Harrison; brothers, J.C., Richard Laverne, and Cecil Outen, sisters Nettie Plyler and Dorothy Knight.
