Steven Carl Gainey, age 60, of Bethune, S.C., passed away, Friday evening, June 2, 2023, in PRISMA Health Richland, Columbia, S.C. Born in Camden, S.C., he was a son of the late Ralph Claiborne “R.C.” Gainey and Ada Kathryn Williams Gainey.
Steven was a graduate of Florence-Darlington Tech and an avid Clemson Tiger fan. He loved spending time with his family and caring for animals. In his earlier years he was an excellent diesel mechanic. He was a devoted son to his mother.
Steven is survived by his sister, Marilyn G. Watkins; 2 brothers, Ralph C. Gainey, Jr. and his wife, Rhonda and Joel Gainey and his wife, Melissa and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by numerous cousins who loved him dearly, especially Denise Rollings and her dog, Lilly.
A graveside service celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, June 6, 2023, in Timrod Baptist Church Cemetery, Bethune, S.C. Rev. Tim Williams will officiate. A burial will follow at the graveside.
The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside.
Memorial remembrances may be made to Kershaw County Humane Society – Thiel Meyer Pet Adoption Center, 128 Black River Road, Camden, S.C. 29020.
The family would like to thank White Oak Manor – Columbia, for the love and care shown to Steven.
