Obituary for Smiley Roe Johnson, Jr.
A funeral service for Smiley Roe Johnson, Jr., age 91 of Kershaw will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14, in the sanctuary of Sand Hill Baptist Church. The Revs. R.B. Ashley and Scott Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors in the Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson passed away Tuesday, January 12, at KershawHealth, Camden. Born in the Buffalo Community of Kershaw, he was a son of the late Smiley Roe, Sr. and Sallie Gardner Johnson. Mr. Johnson retired from Dupont Co. and was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, walking, setting in his swing and watching sports. He along with 6 of his brothers served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Mt. Pisgah High School.
Surviving are 5 children, Gwen (Larry) Barth, Roger ”Rockie” (Terry) Johnson, Kenny (Theresa) Johnson, Jeffrey “J.J.” Johnson and Amy (Mitchell) Barrett; 9 grandchildren, Mia (Bobby) Hinson, Kimberly (Kevin) Ezell, Dana Johnson, Courtney Johnson and her fiancé Scott Curtis, Daniell (John) Winburn, Stanley Roe (Leslie) Johnson, April (Brandon) Faulkenberry, Stephen Barrett and Wendy Wooten; 9 great grandchildren, Veta Humphries, Sunnie Humphries, Payton Fuller, Logan Hinson, Colby Fuller, Riley Faye Hoover, Avery Roe Johnson, Brandon Barth and Trevor Windburn and a great-great grandson, Louis Haggins, Jr. He was preceded in death in addition to his mother and father by his wife, Faye Outen Johnson, a grandson, Michael Barth and 5 sisters and 7 brothers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, January 13, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.
