Obituary for Sara Edna West Bowers
Funeral services for Sara Edna West Bowers, 91 of Kershaw, S.C. will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in the sanctuary of Bethany Baptist Church, Westville, S.C. The Revs. Craigan Blankenship, Tommy Bowers, Quitman Hand and Mr. Jesse Bowers will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bowers died Sunday, November 24, 2013, at her home. Born in the Flat Rock Township of Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Henry Jones and Henrietta Williams West. She was member of Bethany Baptist Church, a 1939 graduate of Baron DeKalb High School and a homemaker. She was married to the late John Benjamin “J.B.” Bowers. Surviving are 12 children, Jesse J. Bowers (Margie) of Westville, Sara B. Ellis of Kershaw, Samuel Pete Bowers (Dottie) of Kershaw, Mary Ann Cook (Eddie) of Kershaw, Jerry J. Bowers (Rowena) of Kershaw, Donald W. Bowers of Kershaw, Vickie Gail Catoe of Kershaw, Roger D. Bowers of Kershaw, Judy B. Sullivan (Charles) of Heath Springs, Larry R. Bowers (Regina) of Kershaw, James Lee Bowers of Kershaw, George T. Bowers of Kershaw; 23 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 children, Fred William Bowers, Kathy Bowers Keihart and Margaret “Peggy” Bass White; 6 brothers, Julius West, Billy West, James West, Walter West, Steve (Sam) West, Ruben West; 3 sisters, Ruth West, Geneva West Sowell and Elizabeth West Cauthen; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. The family would like to thank the special caregivers to Mrs. Bowers, Amy Mackey and Jennifer Fisher from Homecare and Hospice of Lancaster, Brenda Ellis and Sara Beth Ross from Nightingales and Robin Christine Bass. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, 303 Payne Pond Rd., Westville, S.C.
