Obituary for Sandra Watkins Horton
Sandra Watkins Horton, age 73, wife of Lynwood Horton, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at her home. Born in Winston Salem, N.C., she was the adopted daughter of Frances Laura Watkins of Charlotte and Robert Watkins of Asheville. Sandra retired from McCoy Nursing Center after 13 years of service and also had been employed at Kendall Company and Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company after 13 years in Charlotte.
Sandra loved the Lord and her family. She enjoyed flowers and traveling with family and friends.
She leaves behind a wonderful family that she loved so dearly; Karen Benfield, daughter, Russell Horton; son (Sheila) and grandchildren, Ashley Horton, Kathryn DeVido and Kenny Benfield. Deceased were two children, Kevin Robert Benfield and Kenney Lee Benfield. She also leaves behind a sister, Barbara Rogers. She was predeceased by a brother, Phillip Smith. Sandra had four nieces and nephews, Laura Sue Gainey, Bridget Gainey, Delane Gainey, and Amanda Gainey.
Sandra would want to acknowledge her dearest friend, Betty Tidwell. They shared many good times together and were like sisters. They were walking buddies, swimming buddies and took numerous road trips together.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her caregiver, Wanda Sims and also thank Kershaw Health Hospice and nurses, Rebecca Watkins and Martha Horton for the love and care they gave.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 2:00 pm in Timrod Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Jeremy Ussery will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 in the church sanctuary.
