Obituary for Sam Snipes

Grover Lee “Sam” Snipes, Jr., age 76, died Sunday morning, July 23, 2023, at his home. Born in Kershaw, S.C., he was a son of the late Grover Lee Snipes, Sr., and Tizzie Mae Baker Snipes. Mr. Snipes was a graduate of Mt. Pisgah High School and a member of Pineview Baptist Church. He was an accomplished carpenter and the former assistant manager at Kershaw IGA grocery store. He also enjoyed the time he spent hunting and fishing.


He is survived by he loving wife of 56 years, Linda Hopkins Snipes; his son, Robert Lee Snipes; his daughter, Liz Robinson and her husband, Mark; 6 grandchildren, Samantha Snipes, Karmen Robinson, Kendal Robinson, Callie Snipes, Justin Robinson and his wife, Taylor and Savannah Robinson; his great granddaughter, Harper Jade Snipes and his siblings, Larry Snipes and his wife, Annette, Diane Payne and her husband, Robert and Clifford Snipes and his wife, Patty.


The family will greet friends, Wednesday, July 26, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Baker Conference Center, 105 N. Minor Street, Kershaw, S.C.


The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the conference center. The Revs. Larry Humphries and Hank Fanning will officiate.


The burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery with Mr. James Hopkins officiating.


Memorial remembrances in memory of Mr. Snipes may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, S.C. Chapter, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.


Arrangements are under the care of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C.
