A funeral service for Roy Jackson Dorman, 101, of Kershaw, will be held at 11:00 o’clock a.m., Monday, August 21, 2017, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. The Revs. Scott Lewellen and Steve Mackey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery with Military honors and Masonic rites.
Mr. Dorman died Tuesday, August 15, at Pinedale Residential Care Center, Camden. Born in the Buffalo community of Kershaw, he was a son of the late Isaac Copeland and Leila Catoe Dorman. He was a member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church, a former employee of Dupont Co. and retired from Pratt Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach, FL. Mr. Dorman was an avid fisherman and loved his garden as long as he was able. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II and was a lifetime member of Flat Rock Masonic Lodge # 178. He was first married to the late Virginia G. Dorman and second to the late Carliene S. Dorman.
Surviving are 2 sons, Ted (Marie) Dorman of Tampa, FL, Mickey (Linda) Dorman of West Palm Beach, FL and his daughter, Frances D. Williams of Kershaw, SC; 13 grandchildren, Angie, Mike, Cheryl, Scott, Ginger, Mark, Michelle, Roy II, Alexa, Shawn, Corey, Haley and Chad; 13 great grandchildren including one special great grandson, Greyson “Hardrock” Dabney who he loved dearly, 2 great-great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Roy.
Mr. Dorman was preceded in death by 2 sons, Roy Dorman, Jr., Kenny Dorman, a granddaughter, Cindy Dabney; 4 brothers, Coley Dorman, John Dorman, Charles Dorman and Rev. Clarence Dorman and 3 sisters, Thelma Bradley, Nannie Roberts and Lula Grace Faulkenberry.
The family will receive friends any time at the home of his daughter.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Dorman may be made to Pinedale Residential Care Center, Patient Fund Account, 798 Hermitage Pond Rd., Camden, SC 29020 or Thorn Hill Baptist Church, 2587 Kershaw Country Club Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058.
The family would like to thank the staff of Pinedale Residential Care for the love and care shown to Mr. Dorman during the past three years, especially, Tracey, Pauline, Trish and Janie.
