Obituary for Richard L. Outen
Funeral services for Richard Laverne Outen, 85, of Kershaw, S.C., will be held at 2:00 o’clock p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2017, in the sanctuary of Abney Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Kenneth Catoe will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Outen died Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster, S.C. Born in Lancaster, S.C., he was a son of the late Clarence Outen and Gladys Kirkland Outen. Mr. Outen retired from Springs Industries and Lancaster County Recycling Center. He was a faithful member of Abney Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean conflict. Mr. Outen also loved to play the guitar, sing and enjoyed softball.
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Bertha Taylor Outen of the home; 2 daughters, Debbie O. Faile and Angie O. Hendrix and her husband Tony all of Kershaw; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer F. Faile and her husband Randal, Richie B. Faile and his wife Melinda, Morgan Hendrix and Dylan Hendrix; 5 great grandchildren, Bradley Faile, Bogan Faile, Brody Faile, Daphne Faile and Dallas Faile; 4 brothers, Karl Outen and his wife Mary, Wayne Outen and his wife Margie, Bruce Outen and his wife Barbara, Boyce Outen and his wife Lisa and 3 sisters, Sybil Bowers, Rhea Nell Catoe and her husband John and Donna Eudy and her husband Larry.
The family will receive friends, Monday evening, December 11, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home.
