Obituary for Richard Bernard Antley
Richard Bernard Antley, 65, of Kershaw, South Carolina, passed away March 2, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.
Richard was born January 24, 1956 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the second son of Colene (Valentine) Antley and the late Cecil R. Antley, Jr.
Rick worked much of his life as a machine mechanic, retiring from Ingevity (Mead-Westvaco) in 2018. In his short retirement he spent his time cultivating plants and thrifting. He was a lover of antiques and deals, always asking for the “Senior Citizen Discount.” Rick spent much of his free time serving others in various capacities through Kershaw Kare and Youth Serve. If he wasn’t volunteering or shopping, you could find him chatting with his favorite people in and around Kershaw. Rick loved traveling and spent much of the past three years between Virginia and South Carolina, to visit his children and grandchildren.
Rick is survived by his partner R. Aaron Dunn of Kershaw; daughter, Jessica E. McCarty, and her husband, Duane McCarty, of Suffolk, Virginia; daughter, Mary D. Antley, and her husband, Sean Herpolsheimer, of Reston, Virginia; son, Justin R. Antley, and his wife, Erica Hastings, of Ladson; mother, Colene Antley of Moncks Corner; brother, Cecil R. Antley, III of Bristow, Oklahoma; sister, Debra Wolfe of Moncks Corner. Rick was preceded in death by his sister, Terry Antley, and his ex-wife Claudia Antley. Rick was “Papa” to five grandchildren, Tristan McCarty, Richard McCarty, Joshua McCarty, Ethan Antley, and Emily Antley. Rick’s sixth grandchild Margaret Herpolsheimer is due to arrive in May.
The family invites all who knew and loved Rick to a memorial service celebrating his life on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home, 210 East Hilton Street, Kershaw, South Carolina, 29067. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Rick was an avid gardener and volunteer with a genuine love for his community. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Kershaw Kare (https://www.kershawkare.org/how-to-kare) or to the National Arbor Day Foundation (https://fundraise.arborday.org/fundraiser/3156984).
