Obituary for Rev. Robert W. 'Bobby' Owens
Funeral services for Rev. Robert W. “ Bobby ” Owens, 80 of Kershaw, will be held at 3:00 p.m., in the sanctuary of Laurel Hill Baptist Church, 205 Little Dude Ave., Kershaw, Sunday, January 12, 2014. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Revs. John Rogers and Larry Plyler will officiate. Rev. Owens went home to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, January 9, 2014, in Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster. Born in Kershaw, he was the son of the late Jesse Curtis and Mary C. Barrett Owens. Rev. Owens began his career in the ministry in 1970. He had served the following churches, Buffalo Baptist Church, Harmony Baptist Church, Bethune, Oak Ridge Baptist Church and was currently serving as pastor of Laurel Hill Baptist Church formerly known as Mission Baptist Church. Rev. Owens continued to deliver the gospel from the pulpit through December 2013. He was a talented musician and vocalist. Rev. Owens enjoyed participating in the nursing home ministry, singing and sharing the love of the Lord. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Ann Horton Owens; 2 sons, Steve Owens and his wife Beverly, Mike Owens and his wife Anna; 2 daughters, Cindy Owens Knight and her husband Roger, Kelli Owens Campbell and her husband Everett all of Kershaw; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer McCallum (Daniel), Kyle Owens, Michael Owens (Amanda), Heath Owens, Brad Owens, Matthew Knight (Heather), Josh Knight (Danielle), Jacob Knight, Dakota Smith and Skyler Campbell and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammie Elaine Owens; a sister, Polly Allen and a brother, Bill Owens. The family will receive friends, Saturday, January 11, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home, 452 County Club Rd., Kershaw.
