Obituary for Retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Grady Williams
A funeral service for retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Grady Williams, 79, of Lugoff, SC, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 2015, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Kershaw City Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Ronnie Stroud will officiate. Mr. Williams died Thursday, February 19, 2015, in Palmetto HealthRichland Hospital, Columbia, SC. Born in Lancaster, SC, he was a son of the late Sandy A. and Chloe Herring Williams. He retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service, serving during Vietnam. Mr. Williams was of Baptist faith and also enjoyed gardening. He was married to the late Pauline Faulkenberry Williams who predeceased him on August 13, 2011. Surviving are his daughter, Patricia W. “Pat” Garrison and her husband William O’Shay; a granddaughter, Courtney Garrison; a grandson, Christopher Garrison all of Lexington, SC, three sisters, Peggy (George) Small of Kershaw, SC, Shirley McKinney of West Columbia, SC, Polly (Douglas) Melton of Cayce, SC; two brothers, Edward (Mary Evelyn) Williams of West Columbia, SC, Hubert Williams of Ridgeway, SC; three sisters-in-law, Mary F.”Jim” Stroud, Kathleen F. Hunter both of Camden, SC and Betty Jean F. Robertson of Kershaw, SC. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine W. Faile, Audrey W. Criminger; four brothers, Howard A. Williams, Paul Williams, Frank Williams and Harold Williams. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Gail Kirkland 647 Lachicotte Road, Lugoff, SC 29078. Baker Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Williams.
