Obituary for Perry Drennan Thompson
Perry Drennan Thompson, age 70, died peacefully after a brief illness on October 9, 2017 at the Harris Hospice Unit Novant-Presbyterian, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Mr. Thompson was the son of the late Rev. Ralph D. Thompson and Evelyn Hunter Thompson. He is survived by his sister, Ms. Beverly Evelyn Thompson and by Dr. Frances B. Exum, family friend, also of Charlotte, NC. In addition, survivors include maternal aunts, Shirley Hunter Robinson of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Pat Small of Florence, South Carolina; paternal aunt, Gilda Thompson Morris (Leon) of Cedartown, Georgia. Mr. Thompson was blessed to have many cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
Drennan graduated from Dillon High School in 1965. He graduated from Furman University in 1969 with a BA in Music. Drennan studied piano with Sascha Gorodnitzki of The Juilliard School in New York City. He continued his study of music and graduated with a Masters of Music from The Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Mr. Thompson was a member of The Charlotte Chapter of the American Harp Society and the American Guild of Organists.
Drennan was currently serving as the Director of Music with St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Charlotte, North Carolina where he served for almost twenty-two wonderful years. He dearly loved his choirs and church family at St. Vincent’s Parish.
