Obituary for Mattie Lee Byrd
Graveside services for Mattie Lee Byrd, 99 of Kershaw, SC and formerly of Columbia, SC, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 24, 2014, in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Jefferson, SC. Rev. Terry Corder will officiate. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2014, in Crescent Hill Baptist Church, Columbia, SC. Rev. Terry Butler will officiate. Miss Byrd died Sunday, December 21, 2014, in Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster, SC. Born in the Mt. Pisgah community of Kershaw Co., she was a daughter of the late Walter “Pet” and Julia Catoe Bird. She retired from Southern Bell after 35 years where she had served as an operator for the State Capital Complex. She died in Christ, and loved her church, Crescent Hill Baptist , very much. Surviving are her niece, Patricia Byrd West and her husband Calvin of Kershaw, SC; two great nephews, Matthew West of Kershaw, SC and Michael West of Florence, SC; a sister, Pauline Shealy of Columbia, SC and a brother, Walter Byrd of Lancaster, SC. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, William and Nancy Catherine Catoe Bird. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Jesse Fred Byrd, Dorothy Davis, Helen Knight, William Byrd, Miller Byrd, Bobbie Byrd and Cephie Byrd. Memorials may be made to Mt.
