Obituary for Mary W. "Sweetie" Melton
Mary Wright “Sweetie” Melton, 85, of Jefferson, SC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday evening, July 10, 2021, at Lancaster Health and Rehabilitation, Lancaster, SC. Born in Chesterfield County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Dwight Thomas “D.T.” Wright and Levy Watts Wright. She was a faithful member of Faith Family Church and was a former employee of Kershaw County, where she managed the Mt. Pisgah Recycling Center. She leaves a legacy of bible teaching, musical talents and providing love to her family.
Surviving are her 3 sons, Vernon Lee Gainey and his wife, Elaine of Jefferson, SC, Gordon Gainey and his wife, Elise of Camden, SC and Faron Gainey and his wife, Cyndie of Mt. Juliet, TN: 10 grandchildren, Vernon, Jr. and his wife, Angie, Brandon and his wife, Nikki, Jordan, Faith, Joseph, Kimberly Dawn Faile, Toby Fulmer, Isabella, Paul and his wife, Anna and Mallory and her husband, Chris and 10 great grandchildren, Brooke, Brenna, Brantley, Bailey Grace, Abel, Paul Jr., Adeline, Destiny, Cristin and Maverick and her grand pup, Harley.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Ruby, Eva, Ruth, Della, Bruce, Arthur Frank, Gladys and Wade.
The family will receive friends, Tuesday evening, July 13, 2021, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, SC.
Following the visitation her funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Eddie Smith will conduct the service.
She will be laid to rest Wednesday afternoon, July 14, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in Faith Family Church Cemetery, Jefferson, SC.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Faith Family Church-Building Fund, 5779 Mount Pisgah Road, Jefferson, SC 29718.
