Mary Faulkenberry "Jim" Stroud

Mary Faulkenberry “Jim” Stroud, 94, passed away Tuesday morning, March 15, 2022, in MUSC Kershaw Health Medical Center, Camden, S.C. She was born in the Thorn Hill community of Kershaw County, S.C., on May 1, 1927. Mary was the oldest child of the late James Melvin and Maggie Catoe Faulkenberry. She was married to the late Paul Junior Stroud for 62 years, prior to his passing in 2007.

Her early spiritual life began at Thorn Hill Baptist Church as a young girl. She graduated from Baron DeKalb High School in 1945. Mary was employed as a telephone operator in both the towns of Kershaw and Camden until 1960. She graduated from Lancaster County Nursing School in 1962 and was employed at Kershaw County Hospital in Camden, S.C., until 1966. Mary retired from Fort Jackson Moncrief Army Hospital in 1987 as a Civil Service nurse in the surgical operating room. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Kershaw, S.C. and was presently a member of Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church, Kershaw, S.C.

Mary was a loving mother and is survived by one son, Ronald H. Stroud of Camden, S.C.: 3 grandsons, Paul David (Michelle) Stroud of the Haile Gold Mine community, James T. (Sherri) Stroud of Elgin, S.C. and Brian Stroud of Camden, S.C.; 6 great grandchildren, Ashlee (Brandon) Fairfax, Josh (Brooke) Stroud, Tyler (Kylie) Stroud, BreAnna Stroud, Jay Stroud and Xander Stroud; 6 great-great grandchildren; 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Pam Stroud; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen (Leo) Hunter, Betty (Billy Jack) Robertson and Pauline (Grady) Williams and a brother, John “Bud” Faulkenberry.

Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Adam Wright, Saturday morning, March 19, 2022, at 10:00 o’clock a.m. in Kershaw City Cemetery, 190 Kirkland Ave., Kershaw, S.C. 29067. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the cemetery.
