Obituary for Mary Caldwell Horton
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Caldwell Horton, 89 of Heath Springs, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 24, 2011, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw. Burial will be held privately in Salem Cemetery prior to the service. Rev. Bryant D. Fersner will officiate. Mrs. Horton beloved wife of the late Ward Beecher Horton, Sr. died Thursday, December 22, at her home. Born in the Rossville Community near Chester, S.C., she was the daughter of the late James Samuel Heath and Willie Meador McMeekin Caldwell. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Horton was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, a homemaker and enjoyed caring for grandchildren, great grandchildren and cooking. Surviving are her children; Ward Beecher Horton, Jr. and his wife Lynda of Heath Springs, Sheila Horton Shores and her husband David of Heath Springs, James McMeekin Horton and his wife Libby of Columbia and James William Horton and his wife Brenda of Heath Springs, 11 grandchildren; Wendy Horton Bartell (Kevin), Heather Horton Lagasse, Meredith Horton Ghent (Chris), Susan Barton, David Barton (Tammy), Matthew Barton, Seth David Beecher Shores (Mary Kathryn), Jonathan “Than” Charles Shores (Corrie), James Steven Horton (Cindy), Susan Lorraine Hicks (Ronnie), William Todd Horton, 6 great grandchildren; McKenna Elizabeth Bartell, Kevin Trent Bartell, Joseph Tanner Lagasse, Taylor Reid Lagasse, Skylar Wade Ghent and Camryn Breeanna Ghent, 2 brothers; Robert Calvin Caldwell, Sr. of Winnsboro, Francis Marion Caldwell of Great Falls and a sister; Betty Dixon of Winnsboro. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 36, Heath Springs, S.C. 29058 or the charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
