Obituary for Joseph Walter Williams, Jr.
A funeral service for Joseph Walter “Joe” Williams Jr., 86 of Kershaw, SC, will be held at 11:00 o’clock a.m., Wednesday, November 18, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church. The Rev. Bryant D. Fersner will officiate. Burial will be in the Kershaw City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, 704 Country Club Road, Kershaw, SC.
Mr. Williams died peacefully Sunday evening, November 15, in Lancaster Convalescent Center, Lancaster, SC. Born in Heath Springs, SC, he was a son of the late Joseph Walter, Sr. and Susanne Vincent Williams. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a member of Barron Masonic Lodge # 261, Heath Springs, SC. Mr. Williams was also a United States Army veteran. Mr. Williams started Williams Financial Services and Joe Williams Insurance Agency in 1959 which are still in operation today. Most recently in 2011, he started North Main Auto Sales of Kershaw in 2011.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Martha H. Williams; 2 daughters, Wanda W. Gardner and her husband Dean, Angie W. Brewer and her husband Heath; 4 grandchildren, Drew Gardner and his wife Chelsea, Devin J. Gardner, Parker G. Brewer and Raegen J. Brewer all of Kershaw, SC; 2 brothers, Earl Williams and his wife Willie Jean of Aiken, SC, Henry Williams and his wife Edna of Chapin, SC; a brother-in-law, Hazel Sowell of Kershaw, SC, and special caregiver, Lula Nichols. He was preceded in death by a son, Joey W. Williams in 1988; a grandson, Justin H. Brewer in 2010, and 3 sisters, Pauline Sowell and her husband Johnny, Sara Lane and Viola Sowell.
