Obituary for Johnny Shack
A funeral service for Johnny Shack, 80, of Kershaw, S.C., will be held at 3:00 o’clock p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016, in the sanctuary of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Rev. John Odell Sullivan will officiate.

Mr. Shack died Monday, October 10, in Novant Health, Charlotte, N.C. Born in Paden, Mississippi, he was a son of the late J. Stanley and Lillie Owens Shackelford. Mr. Shack was a radio announcer for WKSC in Kershaw for a number of years. He was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church and served in the National Guard. He also loved to play music, especially the violin. Mr. Shack was an excellent musician, and he along with his brother, “Jim” were known as “The Dixie Pals”. They were heard on Saturdays on WVOK radio. Mr. Shack also played on the Morning Show of WBRC-TV 67 AM Monday thru Friday. He was a former announcer for stations in Birmingham, Leeds and Pell City, Alabama, prior to moving to Monks Corner, and then to Kershaw.

Surviving are his daughter, Janice S. Mitchum and her husband Tracy of St. Stephen; 2 grandchildren, Dylan Mitchum and Lauren Mitchum; a sister, Frances Danner and her husband Bobby of Birmingham, Alabama and his special friend, Carolyn Gay. He was preceded in death by a brother, James E. “Jim” Shackelford.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 13, prior to the service at the church beginning at 2:00 o’clock p.m.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Shack may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 o’clock p.m., Friday, October 14, at Peaceful Woods Cemetery, St. Stephen, directed by Dial- Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner.
