Obituary for John Dan Horton
Funeral services for John Dan “Shug” Horton, 87, of Camden, S.C. and formerly of Florence, S.C., will be held at 11:00 o’clock a.m., Monday, March 27, 2017, in the sanctuary of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 1301 Mill, St., Camden, S.C. 29020. Pastor Angela Jennings and Rev. Harold Adams will officiate. Following the service, a graveside service will be held at 3:00 o’clock p.m. in Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro, S.C.

Mr. Horton, widower of Elizabeth Kearse Horton died Monday, March 20, 2017, at his home. Born in Bethune, S.C., he was a son of the late Wade Copeland and Maggie Jones Horton. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service. Mr. Horton was a graduate of Newberry College where he played baseball and later played with several minor leagues. He was proud to be a left handed pitcher and only lost one game during his collegiate career. He also was a US Army veteran and loved to play golf.

Surviving are his daughter, Deborah H. Holland of Camden, S.C.; 2 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Grace H. Holley of Aiken, S.C. and special friends, James Holliday, Jamie Guy and Marguerite Polson; and his dog, Stacey. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Eva, Nell and Myrtle and 4 brothers, Guy, Lawson, Ross and Grady.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, March 26, 2017, from 3:00 to 5:00 o’clock p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 210 E. Hilton St., Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
