Obituary for Jesse John Bowers
A funeral service for Jesse John Bowers, 77, of Westville, SC, will be held at 4:00 o’clock p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017, in the sanctuary of Refuge Baptist Church, Kershaw, SC. The Revs. Evan Smith and Keith Coates will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bowers died Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in Kershaw Health, Camden, SC. Born in the Flat Rock community of Kershaw County , he was a son of the late John Benjamin “J.B” and Sara Edna West Bowers. He was a retired carpenter for Springs Industries for 35 years. He was a faithful member of Refuge Baptist Church, where he was chairman of the Board of Deacons. Mr. Bowers enjoyed restoring classic cars, hunting and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also served his country in the United States Navy.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Margie English Bowers of the home; 2 sons, Rev. Tommy Bowers and his wife Lisa of Kershaw, SC, Jackie D. Bowers and his wife Jacqueline of Westville, SC; 2 grandchildren, Sara and Chase; his siblings, Sara B. Ellis of Kershaw, SC, Mary Ann Cook of Kershaw, SC, Samuel Pete Bowers and his wife Dottie of Kershaw, SC, Jerry J. Bowers and his wife Rowena of Kershaw, SC, Donald W. Bowers of Kershaw, SC, Vickie Gail Catoe of Kershaw, SC, Roger D. Bowers of Kershaw, SC, Judy B. Sullivan and her husband Charles of Heath Springs, SC, Larry R. Bowers and his wife Regina of Kershaw, SC, James Lee Bowers of Kershaw, SC and George T. Bowers of Kershaw, SC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred William Bowers and 2 sisters, Kathy B. Keihart and Margaret “Peggy” Bass White.
The family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.
